Today our 7th & 8th graders dove into the wild world of genetic mutations… with candy! In our Unwrapping Simulation, students experienced how random changes (like wrapping styles or “mutation gloves”) could either help or hinder their ability to complete a simple task—unwrapping candy! Some “mutations” made them faster, others… not so much.

The big takeaway? Mutations can be helpful, harmful, or neutral—and they play a major role in how species survive everyday challenges. Science never tasted so sweet!
