Holy Rosary Elementary

Second and Third Grade
2nd Grade is a very special year spiritually! We prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Third grade students have the opportunity to.participate in the mass as altar servers for the first time after receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy communion as second graders. Both grades also get religious instruction in the school’s atrium. Academically, we transition from the concept of “learning to read” to the idea of “reading to learn.” In mathematics we spend time in all the strands: Numbers and Operations, Measurement, Data Analysis and Probability, Geometry, and Algebraic Concepts. Second graders focus on the concept of adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers with regrouping. The focus for 3rd graders is single digit multiplication and division. We are using Daily 5’s to work on reading comprehension and fluency, spelling and grammar skills. Students work on writing small moment stories, narrative stories, revisions, reviews, and informational writing. Students study about their place in the community and Michigan history for social studies. Science topics include both natural and physical science.
